Arthur was never the type to let a perfectly good afternoon go to waste. Instead of sitting around watching the goats like he normally did when he had finished his routinely walk around the farm, the mutt decided he would make something out of his day. The dog had been sitting on a park bench, taking in the scenery, for the past few minutes as people walked around the park. Even though it seemed to be a nice day, sunny but not hot, the male had only seen one or two small groups of people out and about. Maybe something important was going on in the human world. The few times Arthur had been inside with his Boy, the boy was always sitting in front of a black box that flashed images that went by too fast to comprehend. The only thing he had ever gotten out of them was that people could show up inside of the black boxes, which made him wonder if maybe Boy could show up in the box, too. It didn't seem like a very likely scenario since he had yet to see his Boy inside of these boxes, but it didn't go uncontemplated.

Sitting up so that his nails slipped between the cracks of the wooden benches, Arthur shook himself lazily, eyeing his surroundings. It must have been noon and the park seemed to be dead silent. No children could be heard in the distance, any people he had seen in the past few minutes had cleared out, and the only thing that kept the dog sane was the rhythmic rustling of the trees above his head. Clearly he wasn't going deaf. He lifted his snout to the air, tasting the wind to find any hints of life. There was only one thing that stood out to him: the smell of another canine. Maybe this was the reason no humans were out and about, but that seemed unlikely. It wasn't like the humans went out of their way to avoid parks where dogs hung out. Unless the dogs were unfriendly. The mutt figured he would leave no stone unturned, so he pushed himself to all four feet, quickly shook off the dirt that had settled onto his short fur, and jumped down from his pedestal. It was time he found out what was going on with this place once and for all.

Drachen swallowed the last morsel of meat—a rat which he'd caught. A rat. How humiliating. Who knew what kind of diseases the thing had on it, but he had no choice: he was starving. He was no master hunter, but he had been able to feed himself just barely well enough according to his standards since he'd started living on his own. Some dogs had taught him how to scent and stalk, and of course Drachen had abandoned them once he had learned. It was his typical routine—meet, greet, take, and leave. Social contact left him nauseous, most definitely, but it was something he couldn't avoid in the long run. He'd accepted that long ago.

Turning a corner, he stopped, suddenly, the wind bringing him an unfamiliar smell. Another dog. Oh, joy. How wonderful. A house-pet, perhaps? Someone who could bring him food, real food, from a bag, or a can? What a change in diet that would be. A welcome change! How was he supposed to go about this? Taking a deep breath, Drachen followed the scent, hoping dearly that he wasn't walking headfirst into a brawl or some other kind of hostile situation. It wouldn't have been the first time he'd foolishly gotten his behind kicked for approaching someone else.

He had ran from every single one of those encounters. What else could he have done? Stayed, and fought? Defended his honor? What honor, he thought with bitter, mirthless inward laughter. He was a street mutt. He had no honor. Taking a chance, he called out, “Anyone there?”

"Anyone there?"

Arthur's mother had given him the gift of reading people the way dogs were naturally meant to do. If you thought about it, dogs weren't really meant to communicate with words. Instead, that was a learned behavior, though the mutt wasn't exactly sure how. All he knew was that his mother had taught him at a young age that you could know a canine better than yourself if you could perceive them the way their body was telling the story instead of their tongue. After all, tongues were known for the poison they posses called lies.

The dog analyzed the voice, taking a moment to read the canine before he actually went anywhere. Just the fact that Arthur wasn't the first one to make contact meant one thing: this dog wanted something. He didn't know what he wanted, after all there are a couple of things a dog would need just to survive one day, but then he also knew a dog really only needed a few things if they were out here. Food, companionship, or directions. The GSD spun on his feet, walking toward the voice. Foolish him, he had been following the wrong way of the wind. The mutt had never been known for his sniffing talents, but his hearing was one of his few skills he couldn't quite control. The mutt walked with a certain stride to him, confident because he had recognized the baritone vocals as a male instead of a female. Ears twitching with anticipation, Arthur made a b-line for where he thought the voice had come from and, eventually, he found his way to the origin.

Before him stood a dog who had been aged with the look only a street dog would know, but before that he had to have been a pet. Arthur recognized this as a pure breed just as he was since he had one time experienced a play date with an very intimidating tri-colored girl dog. She was a beast back then and, if Arthur ever had to feel the chills her chords gave him when she spoke, the male was sure he wouldn't make it just from fear.

Pulling himself from the female, Arthur focused his eyes on the dark brown eyes of this new dog. He had a certain hunger to him, but not just because he looked skinny underneath all that fur. He almost had a hunger in his eyes for something that he was looking for. But within that split second he saw that, Arthur's perspective had changed and before him he saw just another canine that needed his help. The male let his lips part, his pink tongue hanging from his jaws as he finished his quick survey of his counterpart, "Name's Arthur. I assume I can help you with something?"

Indira raised her head to the voices of two other dogs. With her neck fur bristling, she started to calculate how far away those male dogs were. Judging by the scent, they were both male and one was probably a stray. Thankfully their scent was not laced with blood, one of the scents she was all too familiar with, otherwise she may have lost herself. Shredding and shearing the rest of the meat of the wild rabbit she had caught a few minutes before she took rest in the shrub where she was crouching now, listening for any clues about the dogs goals. The taste of rabbit blood on her tongue and memories waiting at her mind's door, she was flung back into the howling black abyss of the dog fights.

Snarling, yowling, gibbering and screeching. The taste of blood and bone. Nothing was more hellish than this. Then Indira lost control. Pouncing on the nearest dog in the ring, she shredded the fur from his throat before tearing out the muscles. A guttural howl sounded through her and she was wrenched back into the present.

A steady fear scent was quickly dulled as Indira regained control of her sense. The two canines were still there and were showing no signs of leaving. Sighing, she buried the bones of her quarry and stepped out from the foliage. Glaring down at the dogs, Indira realized that she was on a steep hill a few feet away from them. They'll probably scent her in a few seconds but what would be the harm in curiosity. One was definitely a stray but also a pure-breed which was quite odd, he was also quite scrawny however the look in eyes displayed cunning and Indira instantly distrusted him. The other seemed like a nice dog as if he wanted to help the other but Indira had become wary over the years and stayed put.
