Born in the slums of Detroit, Ruse's life was tough from the start. His dad was never around and his mom was always out and about, leaving Ruse and his six siblings alone in the abandoned shed where they were born for days on end. Then one day, everything was turned upside down. His mom came back, but had a male with her that wasn't the pup's dad. He was a huge Pitbull and German Shepherd mix with odd, cold brown, almost black eyes named Arlowe. The male was famous around the slums for his strength and brutality. He had met Rue's mom, a Labrador named Austere, to take him as her mate. She explained to him that she already had a mate and seven pups back home, but he didn't listen and finally convinced her to take him. Once he saw the pups that weren't his, he detested them and did everything he could to cause them pain when their mother wasn't looking. Austere had explained to him that she had a mate before the male and that the pups were the result and to be kind to them. This angered Ruse that he had lied to his mom, but what could he do? He was still a pup! One horrible day, Ruse walked in to Arlowe skinning Austere alive. Now a strong two-year-old, the male called the pup pack together and they swarmed onto Arlowe's back and around his legs, clawing, snapping, and biting. His stepfather stopped, but only to bring his jaws down on Tessa, the only female and the youngest of the litter, killing her instantly. Spurred on by the death of their sister, the brother's assault became more brutal. Ruse was the one who delivered the fatal blow that ended Arlowe's reign of terror. Then Ruse's dad decided to show up. Ruse looked up from the shredded body that was Arlowe and lunged for the hansom Irish Setter's throat, calling him a traitor. The remaining five brothers had to drag Ruse off of him before he could kill him. Once their dad, Gin, saw Arlowe's body and a half alive Austere, he became enraged at his mate for cheating in him and finished her off. Then he saw one of the brothers, Rokko, standing over Tessa's bloody and battered body. Thinking that Rokko was the one that killed her, he lunged for the pup, pinned him, and gutted him. Horrified and angered at such an action, the remaining four brothers attacked their father, but scattered after he killed Kilwin, the eldest brother. Over the years, Tygan became a house pet, Capult had been in and out of shelters, Vlad had become content with living with a Wolf pack, and Ruse joined the local gang. His life changed yet again. This time for the better. He met Merlot, a sassy blue ribbon-winning show dog. The two fell in love instantly and in no time, had a litter of only two pups, Baylor and Oak.

Personality: Merlot is the type of dog that you could kick and she would still wag her tail at you. She's loving and very forgiving. However due to her harsh past she is also slightly paranoid. She hates to fight, because she hates to cause any sort of pain. She is kind and gentle and loves puppies. Her world revolves around her adventurous and almost stubborn attitude. She never ever gives up, and can sometimes get bitten in the buttocks for this. She still loves people, but gets afraid of them despite her forgiving nature. She is very sociable and probably wouldn't last too long without any friends to comfort her. She tries to find the bright side to everything, almost to an annoying point. She's funny, bright and intelligent. Treats any canine younger than her like a pup, which can get annoying to some. She enjoys seeing pups play. She has had two litters before Oak and Baylor.

Merlot and her two siblings, Noir and Tonic, were born in a dark alleyway in a tipped over trashcan on a snowy January night. Amber and Duke, the parents, made sure that the pups had enough food to see them through the winter. That spring, when the pups were four months old, someone found the family and dropped them off at a nearby shelter. Upon arrival, the pups were separated from their parents. Within two weeks of arrival, the pups had been given new homes. Noir went to a kind middle class family with a 7 year old daughter and a 5 year old son and was named Silk by the daughter for her long, silky red fur. Merlot went to an older upper class woman who named her Lone Rose or Rose for short and trained her as a show dog. Over the years, Merlot, known by others as Rose, had three litters. Each with a different sire. the first one was with a prize winning Irish Setter named Prince who's owner paid Merlot's owner a large sum of money in order for her dog to partner with the beautiful female. The first litter consisted of four healthy purebred Irish Setter puppies. Two male and two female. The second litter with a neighbor's Australian Shepherd named Blake consisted of three Australian Shepherd and Irish Setter mixed puppies. Two strong females and a sickly male. The final litter with a hansom Irish Setter and Lab mixed male named Ruse consisted of seven Irish Setter and Irish Setter-Lab mixed puppies. Six males and a female. Merlot had found out that her dad never got adopted and was "put down", her mom went to a couple with an autistic son and died of old age, and Tonic went to a man who was a member of a street gang and used him in fights with other dogs and in fights with other gangs. He was killed after being stabbed multiple times with a switchblade.
