Everybody has a purpose in life. Flowers bloomed to tell creatures of the coming warmth, Boy took care of Arthur and the goats, even bees seemed to have a spring in their wings like they had the most important job in the world. So, what was Arthur's purpose? Of course he couldn't deny the fact that he was supposed to watch the goats and look after the farm while Boy wasn't out, but besides the farm what good did the mutt really contribute to the world? After debating this issue for a while, Arthur had come to no conclusions. And so he quickly made a decision: he would make his own purpose.
The dog's feet had carried him over to the "Rushing Rapids" as he had heard his Boy call it. The sound of the moving water could be heard from his farm because of the close proximity, to Arthur decided there would be no harm in visiting the water just to see what was going on in the lives of the river creatures. He watched the river for a moment as the strong water was quickly parted by a simple rock in the middle. It was a wonder how something so simple as a rock could stand against the current since, especially in this part of the water, the current seemed to be quite strong.
Moving along the river bank, Arthur paid close attention to the way the mud from the bank crept between his toes. He walked until the current slowed enough for him to make his way down the bank, stepping halfway into the water that rose to his chest. He drank the water slowly, taking his time since he had no where to be. But something quickly disturbed the peace.
The crack of a twig sent a shiver up the dog's spine, his head immediately raised high in the air. Nothing usually came this close to the farm. At least, nothing to be worried about. "Who's there?"
