sort of suggestion..question...segguestion?

Well, I read the rules and from what I understand is that once the alphas are all chosen..the dog can't be challenged for that pack...my question is why? 

my suggestion is (if I understood that correctly) to eventually, not right now considering how new the site is, allow for the positions to be challenged. Packs can be challenged for without a constant change over. One way to insure that is to give the alpha an immunity. Say Kindle is alpha and is challenged and wins the fight. Kindle gets a year of immunity where Kindle can't be challenged for again. Once the year is up, then they can be challenged again. 

I was also wondering if there were judged fights on the site? Where staff or appointed judgers could decide the winner instead of the constant predictability of a fight. I think this is a good way for a site to grow and develop because it adds a bit of excitement and anticipation as well as makes things fair and balanced. Not just the site, but the people as well. Their posts get judged, given ways to improve and so forth. Of course, a judged fight should be completely voluntary- except in the case of an alpha challenge. For dogs that have that 'tough' personality, it is a great way for them to test it out and to get real 'street credit'.

I think these ideas are wonderful, Rook! Pack leaders would have a period of immunity should we bring in a challenging system. There would be a certain amount of time where no one could challenge. I'll start working out the kinks with that soon!

As for the fights, I think that would be a great idea. We could have a specific sub board where the fights might happen (like an alley or something of the like) with a thread inside detailing what's allowed. I'm thinking something like the following.

Post One
Entry and preparation

Chracter B:
Post One
Entry and first attack

Character A:
Post Two
First attack and defense

Character B:
Post Two
Defense and second attack

Character A:
Post Three
Defense and second attack

Character B:
Post Three
Defense and closing post

This would keep out some of the "god moding" (i.e: he attacked him seven times in the face) and make it easier for staff (or maybe volunteer members?) to judge the fights. Fights could be longer if players wish to play out more, but would have to follow that posting style. The rubric for how fights would be judged would be public so that everyone knows what they need to work towards.

Is that something like what you were thinking? c: What would you modify about that set up, or what would you throw out entirely?

The challenging and immunity is spot on really. It keeps things so fun and interesting

For the fights, I was thinking maybe set a guideline in the rules about it, but let people pick their own terms, I think most of us are reasonable with attacks and dodges and the people could always say something in their own terms. Me for example, my terms don't really limit anything, however, if I see a lot of god modding I'd confront my opponent about it but most of the time I'm not picky on the amount of attacks and dodges, simply because it is more realistic that way. 

I also wouldn't limit it to a specific board, it's fine at first but after awhile it kills muse.

If we do the fight portion, I highly recommend having a few people to judge fights. It IS time consuming and frustrating at times, but it does keep everything balanced and fair and as I mentioned before, it does help people with their posts by pointing out grammatical/spelling errors and flow of their posts.

Hello, rook! Thank you for your suggestion, however we will not be having any challenges on the site. More land will be provided as needed, therefore they aren't necessary. As stated in the rules, if someone wants a challenge to take place for plot reasons or because they are tired of being an alpha, that can happen.

The reason for this is simple, I ran a horse site that had challenging before, many years ago. I hated it. I hated seeing someone who had worked so hard to set their herd up have it ripped out from under them. I know some members enjoy it, but I personally can't deal with it :s I hope you can understand<3
