Your better off without them (Blizzard)

"be a good girl now Sidney" The calming voice of her foster mom, Agatha, spoke as she began to grab her keys and coat "Mommies gonna be out for a bit okay" Agatha added, petting Sidney's head as the front door creaked open, much to the collie mixes pleas for her foster mom to stay. Sidney had curled her body around Agatha's legs in hope that she would be able to stop her human from leaving the house. "Please don't go, please don't go" she chanting in her head over and over again as her human tried to calm her down, eventually getting Sidney to sit quietly by the door as she left. Her eyes wide open and her tail kept as close to her body as possible while she sat there,transfixed by the silence and utter feeling of being alone.


Sidney whined as she shuffled where she sat, eventually getting up and cautiously pacing down the hall way. "ookay Sidney, you can do this..lets..lets just take a walk around the house and maybe Agatha will be back by the time we get back to the door..yeah" She said nervously to herself with as much enthusiasum as she could feebly muster. Turning into the living room, pausing, then turning out to check the other rooms in the house. One round of pacing about the apartment felt like a millennium had passed when only 5 mins had passed in real time. Sidney began to get more anxious, she began to whine a bit more and soon she couldn't calm herself down. Drawing a deep breath, she began to howl in sets to draw off her anxiety "Agatha will be back Sid, she will be back, she won't abandon me here..right?" she frantically tried to convince herself

It was odd for the young border collie to find herself in the human area of the city. She knew how to hunt, so she didn't need to get into their garbage cans of beg. But, not too long after she had walked in, a series of whines were heard. It was a female canine, she could tell that much, but she wasn't sure if it was a dog or a fox. Are they trapped? She wondered, thinking maybe one of the humans had taken a stray against her will, locking the poor canine inside the house. With her anger against the human species, she wanted to help this canine escape. So, she followed the sound. The whines had evolved into large howls, echoing off the walls and into the streets. The black and white collie wove through the streets until she found the house that seemed to be where the howls were coming from. 

Sniffing around the house, she realized the howls belonged to a dog, it was obvious now. A fox would more so bark, coyotes and wolves would sound more frightening. This was just a light, frightened howl of a dog not much larger than her. Now, Blizzard was more desperate to get in there and help her. This dog was most likely too scared to fight back. The house was pretty secure, the ground solid, most windows were closed. One in the back was open just the slightest bit. Jumping on her back legs, the collie was able to balance her front paws on the window's pane and use her muzzle to pry the rest of it opened. Once it was open, and after a few jumps of effort, she was able to collapse into the humans house, landing hard on the wooden floor. She growled low from the impact and heaved herself back to her paws, chocolate hues looking for the source of the howls. 

Though she was looking, she was obviously uncomfortable. It had been over two years since she had been in a human house. Not since she was abandoned herself. The carpet was strange on her paws, it was slightly familiar but also making her more uncomfortable. Her eyes fell on another black and white dog, much similar to herself. Though, she appeared a bit younger and smaller. Her body wasn't muscular, and now she realized that maybe this wasn't a stray. But, a dog that was so attached to their owner that they were pitifully crying out to someone who obviously wasn't listening. Her fur began to bristle, making her body similar to that of a panda bear. "What are you yowling about?" She murmured. Her voice was gentle, but there was an edge to it. She forced herself to have deep breaths, to calm her bristling fur and allow it to lay flat. If she were a house-pet that was anxious for the reason of a leaving owner, the sight of a strong-built stray would most likely terrify her. Especially one on her own property.

SIDNEY

The sudden sounds coming from the back of the house and it made Sidney jump. Facing the direction of which the sounds were coming from and freezing on the spot, the loud thud made her whine and skip frantically for cover. Her nails scratching the floor and she ran under some bits of furniture. He body began to shiver, it was like when she was left alone at her old home again. where she spent countless nights in the dark unknown, hiding from the threats that loomed out there. 


"W-Wh-Who'z t-t-th-there" She whispered, stuttering so incoherently till you could barely understand her as she slowly crept toward the room where the sounds came from. setting her eyes upon another dog who looked to be a similar breed to her. Sidney yelped and skidded for cover when the stranger suddenly spoke, it intimidated her much and she was already very Skittish
 
"WHO ARE YOU?!?! WHAT ARE YOU DOING IN MY HOUSE?!?" she howled in fear as she curled herself up in a defensive pose from her corner of the room. Her tail was fluffed up but it was between her legs and she was already whining even though the stranger did not do anything

The other dog seemed more panic by her approach than she had originally expected. Well, it wasn't what she had expected at all. She was going into the house to rescue a scared, trapped stray. And now, she was met with a much different situation. Most certainly a house-pet. Her mind murmured and she sighed inwardly. And then came the whines, yelps, and fake aggression. The black and white dog sighed for real this time. Shut up... Her mind whispered, but she kept the thought to herself. "Let your fur lie flat." She barked, her voice more commanding this time, almost annoyed at the dogs constant puppy-like behavior. "Your a grown dog for goodness sake. Stop all that whining." She growled, her ears ringing at the other dogs frightened whines.

"I am a stray from the streets, I thought you were too, that some pesky human had locked you inside their home and planned to keep you." She started, ears relaxing so that she was standing dominant over the other dog, yet not threatening her in any way. Though if the other dog attacked first, she would fight back, no matter whose house it was. "But, turns out you actually live here, and your screeching well...I have no idea what it's about." She stated, head cocking slightly as though trying to figure this female out. The collie waited until the whines had quieted and her ears stopped ringing before she spoke up again. "I'm Blizzard." She stated, her voice much more calm and friendly now. Her tail gave a light wag, as though she were trying to convince the other female that she wasn't here to harm her, only to help. 

"Now, I promise I won't bite, but why were you yowling like you were trapped in here? Are you hurt? Hungry?" The female dog looked none of the sort, but Blizzard was trying to stay away from the more obvious situation. She misses her human. It was obvious, but Blizzard hated the thought. And the fact that she had worked so hard to get in here just to find a homesick, anxious, house-pet. But, she said none of that to the other dog. Instead, her eyes remained soft, friendly, and almost welcoming.

The firm command the stranger gave made Sidney freeze and her whining ceased at the strong wave of dominance emitted from the dogs words, like a sudden stopper placed at the end of a running spout all of Sidney's feelings of fear went away with those words of command as she held her breath momentarily before heaving out all of the anxiety bottled up inside her.

She settled down as her fur began to lie flat, shuffling into a comfortable, secure position on the floor with all of her limbs laying close to her body. Licking her muzzle to comfort herself as she listened to the stray speak. Her breathing was still rapid but she was calmer.

"M-my names Sidney.." she said softly after Blizzard introduced herself. The boarder collie didn't seem like a bad person, she was just as cautious as she was. Her ears went flat when Blizzard mentioned her yowling "sorry.." Sidney apologies in an even softer tone, wanting to bury her face into her paws but resisted the urge to do so. Sidney shook her head in reply to Blizzards question "no..its none of those...i just...." she said, unsure of how to put it "she..she left a-and.." Sidney tried to continue. "I-I'm afraid she's not going to come back" She finally managed to get the words out, her ears suddenly picked up sounds coming from the corridor and her attention instantly changed to the direction of where she thought the sound came from, hoping it was Agatha coming home, but it was really just her imagination, her hypersensitive self picking up every little sound that travelled into the house.

Finally, the female began to relax and Blizzard was able to feel a little bit more comfortable around her. Though, she was still not comfortable with her surroundings. The normal sofas, TVs, and the normal setup of any human home. It was just like her old one aside from the big farm-land outside it. She wouldn't be able to stand a human home like this. So cooped up with no fields to run in, no sheep to chase. She couldn't figure out why an canine would want to live in such strangling conditions. But, if that's what the other she dog liked... After a few moments, the other canine spoke up, and Blizzard was able to learn that her name was Sidney. Ears swiveled to catch her words through the stutters, it was a challenge, but for the must part she was able to succeed. 

The black and white collie wanted to gag when she was proven that the issue was simply this dog missed her humans and was afraid that they won't going to return. A stricter side of Blizzard's mind wanted to snap at Sidney. Wrap her paws around her head and shake the reality into her that humans didn't care about dogs. They were just little toys they could dress up and move around like living dolls. They eventually get bored, and the humans leave, the dog left to fend for themselves and sometimes not always having the best outcome. But, the softer side of her understood. Though she had not gone back to the humans, she understood what it felt like to be abandoned, to long for them to return and to feel their hands ruffle your fur to make your pain go away.

She knew what the other collie was missing and what she was so scared of. Blizzard's gaze softened, understanding the dogs confusion. "I understand." She murmured gently, her tail tip twitching lightly. "When I was just a pup, my brother and I were used on a farm to herd the sheep back into pens." She began, her body lowering into a laying position. It was in this silence that Sidney got excited for a moment, the sound of a  step maybe? But, it was nothing really, just the other dogs imagination acting out in her anxiety. "I lived there for two years, then the just up and left when I was looking for loose sheep who had strayed from the herd. They left me, but took my brother, and they never returned." Her ears drooped for a minute, but she quickly regained her confidence. "But, some humans really love their canines and take care of them no matter what." 

There was a sense of comfort in her words. She knew how badly she had felt, and she didn't want this other dog to go through what she was going through. There was just no need for it, no dog deserved it. Even if they were horrible dogs.

"Your humans left you too?" Sidney asked as her interested was perked, Blizzard sounded like a dog who went through the same ordeal as she did "Mind locked the gates behind their car when they drove off" she said, remembering how foolish she was to believe that they were just going out for the day "My humans pup was playing with me earlier that day then they just got up..and left" She added sadly "I thought they were going to come back like they always did, but then days past...and..well...other people found me" she said, letting her eyes trail to the ground as her anxiety slowly began to creep back

"I just can't help it to think Agatha will do the same, though..she always reassures me before she leaves.." Sidney ended off, the constant thought that her foster mother wouldn't come back kept returning to her mind

When the dog began to speak about her past situations, Blizzard allowed her ears to fall back in sympathy. She knew exactly how Sidney was feeling and wanted to help her in any way she could. Rising to her paws, the border collie lowered her head, showing that she was not going to hurt the other collie in any way. Walking over, she sat beside the smaller dog, allowing her tail to rest gently against her back. It was the only kind of comfort that Blizzard really knew. There was no way she could give this anxious dog what she wanted, human comfort. But she was able to give her another kind of comfort, one that dogs share.

"It's alright." She soothed, her voice low and gentle. The kind that a master would use to a panicked animal. "When my humans left me, I was distraught, terrified. But, as I grew up, I honestly thank them. Being able to fight, to hunt, I don't have to depend on anyone or anything. I don't have to worry about abandonment or being left alone, because I only have myself to rely on." She paused, allowing the words to sink in. "I guess what I'm trying to say is being a stray is much easier. It's so much freer. I can see the world with my own eyes, not from the humans' TVs. I know where my next meal will come from, as I will find it myself. And if anyone tries to hurt me or my loved ones, I am strong enough to defend us all." Her ears pulled back and she took a breath, allowing her body to relax beside Sidney's. "You don't need these humans. I know you love them, I loved mine, too. But, why deal with this anxiety? Why wait for her when you have no idea where she is or what she's doing? You could come with me. I can teach you the ways of the wild, to be free and happy. You won't have to be lonely, you will have me, i'll protect you, teach you. We could be companions, safe." 

Her ears once again folded back, her eyes pleading with the other collie. She was desperate for a companion, but if Sidney was convinced this place was where she belonged, Blizzard wouldn't push. Rising to her paws, she paced away just a little bit to give the other canine space. Once she was back to her few feet away, she sat down again, her chocolate colored eyes studying the other dog expectantly, her tail wrapped neatly around her paws. The decision was hers.

 When Blizzard moved to sit beside her, Sidney had completely calmed down, the knowing that this dog wasn't going to hurt her helped her relax and trust the stray more and soon Sidney was beginning to feel thankful for her company. The scary sound of silence faded away with Blizzards calm words and curiosity began to return to Sidney as she listened to Blizzards words.

Shock spread across Sidney's face when the invitation to join Blizzard as a stray was given to her, no one had ever asked her that before "But..what happens if you get hurt or injured? there won't be anyone there to take you to the vet" She said, the house pet never once thought of a life without humans. The stray indeed did make sense but the thought of leaving Agatha was too much to bear for the Collie mix. She could see that Blizzard longed for companionship in her eyes, but as much as Sidney wanted to follow her, it was too big a leap "S-sorry blizzard..I..I just can't.." she said apologetically, a part of her did want to go, the life Blizzard had just explain did indeed seem a lot more promising then the one she was living in, but the fear kept her back. As much as she wanted, she could not say yes

The shock on the other collies face immediately put Blizzard on the defense and her hackles tightened. The first thing the other she dog brought up was the vet. No one needs a vet. Her mind snarled and she lept to her paws. "A vet? Seriously?" She growled, lips lifting in a snarl, though she wasn't going to hurt the female, she was furious. "You don't need a vet. You use your naturally instinct. Licking, washing. You don't need a stupid vet!" She snapped, her ears pinning and the growl only rising in her throat. 

Turning her head back on the other collie she snarled again, "Fine then. I don't need you anyway. Stay with your pesky human, and when you get left behind again, don't be surprised when I come calling back to scream 'told you so' in your face!" Her hackles rose and she stormed toward the window. Her fur stood up in black and white prickles, her body was tense all around, the muscles well rippling through and her tail was curled aggressively as though she would pounce any minute. She really had no issue with the female, but the way she was so..stubborn, she was so irritated she could have left a scar on the females ear.

The sudden hostility of Blizzard made Sidney bark back and curl her back up in a defence as she jumped from the shock, but before she could reply properly to Blizzards words the stray turned her back on her and began to return to the window, Sidney wanted to stop her. 

she didn't mean to offend the stray in any way, she just didn't know any better about the world outside the confines of a human. The Collie mix's mouth opened in an attempt to clarify her mistake, but then she thought twice about it before saying the only words she thought was appropriate "I'm..sorry" she said apologetically, part of her wanted to go with Blizzard actually but most of her domesticated side told her to stay

"Thank you Blizzard" she said honestly, she really did want to go, but her heart was conflicted and it still stayed with the humans

Her ears were up in aggression and she was about to jump out the window, when the other female apologized. But, that only made the anger worse. "Go apologize to your human. I don't wanna hear it." She snapped, another sharp growl rising in her throat as she stormed toward the female. Her fur was all the way bristled and she paced until she was nose to nose with the female. Pinning her against the wall so she couldn't back away. "Next time I see you on my streets or in my woods, I will tear you limb from limb. I won't even hesitate. So enjoy your human life, I promise they won't know how to save you from a 'rabid' dog." She snarled and did a small false snap of her teeth just inches from the other females nose, before she turned her back and jumped out the window, not even casting a look back at the terrified house pet.

A Low whine came from Sidney's throat as Blizzard snapped at he, she felt bad for rejecting the stray's offer, she really did. But leaving her humans as a very big decision and it was not one who could just make on the spot. Her eyes fell to the ground as Blizzard stormed out of the window and the house became empty and quite again. Sidney actually liked Blizzards company and usually, when her anxiety issues were not bothering her, the her mind often drifted to the wilderness from time to time

something made the house pet get up on her paws with haste and she made her way quickly to the window, propping herself up to look out of it as her front paws supported her on the windowsill. Blizzard had already travelled a long way away from her house and it was clear that she was not going to even look back. Sadness filled Sidney's eyes as she turned her back on the window as well, it was not possible for her to say yes now and Blizzard was already long gone.

but the seeds she had planted in Sidney's mind were beginning to sprout and unknown to the both of them, they're paths will cross once more.

notes: yeah! it would be awesome if they were buddies, but for now Sidney can't transition to a stray just yet lol. i do hope they will be friend XD but i hope Blizzard wasn't serious on the part about tearing Sid apart of she ever sees her again lol.
gonna do a thread with Arodana first with her house pet character. perhaps during that Blizzard can meet with Duke to talk about her meeting Sidney and we can work things out to see which outcome this girl will end up taking
